The
UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education
offers post-graduate education in Delft, The Netherlands, and carries out
research and capacity building projects all over the world. The mission of
UNESCO-IHE is to contribute to the education and training of professionals
and to build the capacity of sector organisations, knowledge centres and
other institutions active in the fields of water, the environment and
infrastructure in developing countries and countries in transition.
UNESCO-IHE has a permanent staff of 180, of which 90 are scientific staff,
while about 250 guest-lecturers from academia and industry contribute to the
educational programme. Each year 750 participants (incl. about 200 new MSc
students per year) from all over the world attend the various regular and
short courses at UNESCO-IHE.
The Department of Management and Institutions
(MaI) provides postgraduate education and training in the area of water
management to professionals with backgrounds in engineering, social science
or management; carries out research in this area and supports the
development of education and research capacity in universities and other
knowledge centres in the developing world. The department has two Core
Groups: Water Services Management and Water Resources Management. This

The new staff member will contribute to the activities of the core in
education, research and projects.
And is
prepared to work with different researchers on a variety of projects within
the MaI Department, across the other academic departments or with partner
institutions abroad.
Responsibilities
-
Teach and coordinate courses in the Water Management MSc programme,
-
Initiate, develop and implement international research projects in the
field of Water Management;
-
Co-supervise MSc research and in case of a senior position also PhD and
Postdoc research;
-
Develop innovative post graduate education and professional training
programmes;
-
Acquire and contribute to international capacity development, advisory
and other projects.
Requirements
The candidate:
-
is fluent in English, and preferably also in Spanish and/or French;
-
has affinity with, and preferably working experience in, developing
countries and/or countries in transition;
-
is motivated to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural
environment.
Specific
requirements for Lecturer Business Economy
The new staff member is expected to have a research focus and be interested
in education, training, and capacity development. The key areas of interest
are all micro-economic issues related to Water Services Management.
The candidate:
-
has a Master degree in business economics or equivalent, and is willing
to obtain a PhD,
-
demonstrates a strong interest or experience in conducting
interdisciplinary research,
-
is willing and able to teach a variety of topics related to economic
issues in the field of Water Services Management; such as Principles of
Economics, Financial Management, and Public Private Partnerships;
-
has teaching experience at postgraduate level and good didactic
qualities, or is willing to invest in developing these skills.
Specific
requirements for (Senior) Lecturer Water Resources Planning
Given the existing staff composition, the new staff member is
competent in water resources planning, adopting an integrated perspective
and using a systems approach. The new staff member must have experience with
quantitative planning methods. The new staff member is willing to work in
multidisciplinary research groups on interdisciplinary topics.
The candidate:

has a PhD degree in a field relevant to water resources
planning/management;

has a record of academic publications;
-
has
teaching experience at (post-)graduate level and good didactical skills;
-
has a strong interest in conducting interdisciplinary research.
Conditions
Both positions are fulltime. Contracts are concluded in initially for a two
year period, with a possible extension of another two years. Hereafter a
fixed employment can be offered. The position is based in Delft, The
Netherlands. A competitive salary (scale 10/12 CAO Dutch Universities) is
offered depending on qualifications and experience in accordance with the
conditions of employment for Dutch Universities. The appointment implies
entry into the Netherlands' Civil Service Pension Fund (ABP). Candidates
must be prepared to carry out long- and short-term missions abroad.
