Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in PhilosophyDepartment of Sociology and PhilosophySchool of Humanities and Social Sciences incorporating the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies(Ref. R44N1398) The Department of Sociology and Philosophy invites applications for a permanent post, at any level from Lecturer to Associate Professor, in a strong research-oriented, multidisciplinary department. Candidates should be able to teach a full range of basic philosophy courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as participate in innovative transdisciplinary courses and course development. Areas of specialization are open, but it is desirable that applicants' research interests should complement those of existing staff, which include the philosophy of the social sciences, the philosophy of biology and the biomedical sciences, applied ethics (including biomedical), the sociology and philosophy of technology, the philosophy of embodied and enactive cognition and topics in philosophical anthropology generally, and the philosophy of music and art. The post is available from 1 September 2008: interviews will be in late February or early March.
